Jan-March News
January/February 2011
Warm Wishes to everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday.
A few notes to help keep everyone up on what is going on!
Martin Luther King’s Birthday -We will be having classes!
Valentine’s Day- We will not be doing a big shindig! Classes are normal.
No regular classes on President’s Day- Feb 21stth…most dancers will be performing…see below. Any tumblers who want to tumble, we will have open tumbling 4-445.
Individual and group pictures at the Studio March 22nd. Carey Portell from Unique Photos will be taking them. The schedule is attached. It is imperative that everyone be on time so that our later evening girls remain on schedule too! Girls can wear their hair however, please make sure you have all feathers and costume supplements attached. The poster is up at the studio with all costumes on it so you can see what it is to look like. Room moms of dancers with black patton beginner taps….see the office about what you need to get for ribbons for your class. …see the schedule for your class time! No regular classes on this night, only photos.
TIGHTS will be coming in mid-February. Your child will need to purchase Danskin Lt Toast/Capezio Caramel tights to go with their costumes for pictures and the show if they do not already have. No pantyhose. Please make sure you get the right brand so everyone matches. There are so many shade changes upon companies… I wouldn't want anyone to be different or not have the right ones. These can be reused year to year. Remember, they don’t need to wear panties with their tights, they are built in. Last day to order is Jan 25th!
Make sure you have all the right shoes and colors for the recital- black taps, Black
jazz gore boots, pink ballet shoes (not slippers-those are bad for your feet and legs), dance paws or mittens.
Put your name inside all shoes so they don’t get mixed up.
This is the time of year for bad weather; please call the studio to hear a recording for snow cancellations. You may also check our website &/or Facebook for cancellation and updates. I do have a calendar on the site as well if you need any important dates!
No classes April 26th- Easter Monday-Happy Easter!
Everyone will have class on Tues, April 27th…All studio classes will meet at a special time on Tuesday so we can rehearse our finale and work on some performance techniques. Schedule will come closer to time.
Thank you for being so prompt in paying each month. It helps when everyone works together and gets their tuition in the first week. Thank you all for all your help in making Dance Express’ eighth year so successful!
EXTRA PERFORMANCES COMING UP
When we perform at the nursing homes, please limit who comes with the dancer. It needs to just be the parent coming in with the dancer, not entire families and extended family members. There is limited space at the nursing centers and this is for their residents. This is a big complaint from the nursing centers. The performances are turning into mini-recitals vs. a show for the residents to enjoy and get the kids involved in the community. PLEASE limit 1-2 parents with the dancer performing. If we don’t, we will not be able to do this for the nursing centers. They have brought it to my attention how disturbed they are by this.
Gibbs Care Center Performances Monday, Feb 21 at 5:45PM – Mon 530 (both), Tues 5 (Gaddis) & Mon 430 Dance. Wear Costumes & tights
Victoria Manor Nursing Center- Mon, Feb 21 at 6:00PM-Performing is the Mon 4:00, Tues 4 & Tues 430 Wear costumes & tights

Spring Recital is Sat, May 14th 10AM & 2PM
Acro rehearsal will be Tues(10th) at Studio Dance rehearsal will be Wednesday(12th) at UMR
As you sign up for additonal tickets…we will be doing assigned seating…so we can fit every family member in the show. UMR rules since we are going to one show.

• Mon 445 & Mon 6 Acro will rehearse from 5-5:45.
• Mon 615 Acro & Cheer will rehearse from 530-615.
DANCE REHEARSAL AT Leach Theatre, UM-Rolla (Castleman Hall)-- Wednesday May 11, 2010
Please note your child's time. I know you will have to make special arrangements for those rehearsing, so I wanted to give you plenty of notice. All students MUST be at the rehearsal in order to be in the recital! Regular Dance attire…no costumes!
**Parents… there is a lobby to the theatre for you to wait and visit in. We found last year, having parents in the rehearsal was a bit of a distraction to the students. Rehearsal is going to be closed this year, so we can have the students’ complete attention.
WEDNESDAY Rehearsal (11th)
Monday 4:00, Mon 530 & Tues 4 5-545 PM
Mon 4:30, 5:30, Tues 430 5:30-7:00 PM
Tues 5:30, Comp Students 6 -8 PM
Duets/Trios/ 8-8:15 PM
I will stay as close to this schedule as possible! If we finish early, then students can leave early. This is a rehearsal atmosphere and needs to move promptly to ensure everyone knows what is going on! I really stress professionalism when putting on a show, and I greatly appreciate your support on this! Those parents that stay, please wait in the waiting room until your child is finished. Students should not be running in and out and all around.
RECITAL- Sat, May 14th 10AM & 2PM
ALL tickets go on sale March 1-15th. After the 15th, if it appears we only need one show, we will handle it at that time. We will have to assign seats, then open up any “extra” seats available. If it appears we would not have enough seats….we will have 2 shows.
** RECITAL FEES: There is a $50 recital fee charged per family. This fee helps pay for the production of the recital: the cost of rental for the Theatre, paying the technicians, printing the programs, scenery, props, etc. It also includes one souvenir recital t-shirt (which students wear for the finale!) and program. With this fee, each family will receive two tickets for each show your children are in. Additional tickets must be purchased at the studio for $5 a seat. UMR does not suggest sitting kids on laps because they may inhibit someone else's vision. This is due with March Tuition.

Greetings and welcome back to Miss Lisa’s Dance Express! I am getting so excited to see everyone and for another wonderful year. I have lots of great ideas and am ready to help all these young people to achieve their dreams! Thanks for signing up and I look forward to working with you!
Your child’s class is scheduled on:
Dance (ballet, jazz, tap) Mondays from 530-6 beginning Aug 30
Tumbling/Acro………_
Cheer ……………….__________ from_______ beginning ____________
Other………………...__________from________beginning____________
Your monthly tuition will be $66. Second son/daughter is 15% off. For more additional children, there are additional discounts. Payments due by the first class.
Monday classes will start on Mon, Aug 30st…we start a week early b/c of Labor Day we are not in session.
Tues/Wed classes will start after Labor Day on Tues, Sept 7, Wed the 8th.
Please be patient during this first month, I will try to have exact classes nailed down by October, but until I get to work with everyone it is impossible to have classes exactly set until I see ability levels. So, please be patient with me.
Class Dress Code
The dress code will be strictly enforced.
If your child is not in the appropriate attire, he/she will not be allowed in class.
We will have a selection of dancewear you may order and shoes for classes available at OPEN HOUSE.
ALL HAIR in ponytail or buns in EVERY class!!!
Orders for DE tank ($24) and black jazz pants($25) due by September 15th. We will begin community performances in October and everyone must have one. So, come to Open House and get yours or order it to ensure we get it here on time for you. Same black tanks previous years!!
Additional items available to order if you wish by October 6:
Backpack sling bags $20, Window Decals $7, Embroidered Warm-Ups $85, Leotards ($15-20),
Boycut Shorts ($16), Tights ($14), Parent T-Shirts ($16-18)
No t-shirts or baggy pants. Your child must be dressed appropriately so we can provide proper body instruction of alignment.
Dancers Etiquette
1. Do not wear jewelry in class.
2. No candy or chewing gum in class.
3. Be on time for classes. Change into dance clothes and shoes before classes begin.
4. Hair must be pulled back away from face and off neck.
5. Roughhousing during classes or in the lobby will be strictly prohibited. You will be asked to supervise your child if they cannot behave. Sibling may be asked to leave if not behaving.
6. Follow dress code!
We have had A LOT OF PROBLEMS with students and siblings running through the halls, damaging the building, blocking other business’s doorways and rough playing. This will NOT be tolerated. If this pertains to your family, you will have to be asked to leave. _____________________________________________________________________________________
Lobby/Waiting Area
You are welcome to wait for your child in the lobby/waiting area. Observation through the windows is allowed the first few weeks of class. However windows will be covered so progress can be marked and students direct their full attention to the faculty vs who is watching through the window and some students simply don’t like to be watched while learning. We will have one watch week -the first week- December, so mark your calendar. Remember our studio is small…so parents only.
Should you drop your child off vs. staying??? We do suggest dropping your child off and not staying. This is so your dancer/tumbler can completely focus on their class and not be distracted by his/her parents being in the hallway and wanting to be with them. We do understand with our younger ones, parents do need to stay.
If you choose to stay, we do ask that you help us to keep the lobby/waiting area clean. If you spill something, please ask for something to clean it up. Please clean up any trash you bring in with you. We want our students to be responsible and well-rounded.
Please help us with the noise and activity level. Children and siblings of students should always have adult supervision. Absolutely NO running, dancing, tumbling in the halls by students or siblings!
Drop Off and Pick Up
Please make sure a teacher is present before dropping off your child. Please be on time to pick up your child. Once your child’s class ends I cannot be responsible for them as I am beginning another class. For safety reasons I don’t recommend having your young child wait by the outside door. They are welcome to wait in the lobby/waiting area until you arrive.
Tuition & Additional Fees
Tuition is due the first week of every month. If tuition is not paid by the 10th of each month then a $10 late fee will be applied. You are responsible to pay late charges and the month’s tuition. Your child will not participate in class until the fees are paid in full. Checks can be slid under the office door if we are not there. If you need a payment arrangement due to your payday, please talk to our office staff and we will try to work with you. There is a $30 fee added to returned checks. If a class meets only two times in one month, your tuition will be adjusted. We do not prorate if you miss a class.
Additional Fees: I thought you might want to know in advance costs you will incur other than tuition throughout the year. All fees are non-refundable:
Costume for recital due in November: Dance & Acro costumes-$50 Tights- $14 plus tax
Recital fee due with March tuition: $50 per family. This fee includes 2 tickets to the show, one recital T-shirt and one program.
Attendance
Attendance is important to the success of your child and to the whole class. Your child can fall behind if he/she misses frequently. Practices in April and May are mandatory for the recital. Please keep this in mind on class night. You must be at the two practices prior to a general performance in the community (i.e. ballgames, Nursing Home appearances and such) in order to participate. Students not able to abide by this regulation will be taken out of that number for that particular event. Dance/Acro is a team event! Everyone matters!
Studio Closed
September 6-Labor Day, November 23-26- Thanksgiving Break, December 23- Jan 3- Christmas Break, Feb - President’s Day, March Spring/Easter Break. We will have classes on Martin Luther King’s Birthday.
The date for the Spring recital is Saturday, May 14th, times TBA.
We will take Studio pictures (individual and group) in March.
Please bring with you to our first class, the completed emergency/student info sheet for each student. If you are a returning student, you must correct & initial your current sheet in the office. Everyone must have a current release on file in order to participate in classes. You may do this at Open House as well. I prefer to always be prepared just in case of any incident.
Updates, copies of class notes, and more info can be found on our website: www.misslisasdanceexpress.com. We have TONS of info on the website, so please check it out! We try to send out monthly newsletters via email if you have it, if not by paper copy. We have extra copies of the months newsletter posted on and by the bulletin board . It is the parent’s responsibility to keep up on when the extra performances are. If you have further questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact the studio 885-2630, email: lisa.danceexpress@yahoo.com
I’m looking forward to seeing all of you!!!
Miss Lisa
Open House August 9th..4-6PM
OPEN HOUSE IS INTENDED to give families a chance to check out and familiarize yourself with the studio, get sized and purchase their shoes & apparel if needed, so they are ready for the 1st class. This is meant as a convenience to avoid having to drive to St. Louis to get shoes and apparel! We will NOT be carrying a stock year-round!
PLEASE don’t wait until the first class! It helps your child feel more prepared to have it all taken care of before the first class.
If you are interested in selling used tap or jazz shoes, you may bring them in to the studio before Open House to put on the used shoe rack. No ballet shoes as they are too worn!!! Please mark your name and price on them. I am not responsible for any missing shoes.
If you have changed your mind about taking classes, please let us know asap as we do have a waiting list.

Recital and March News
In an effort to save families time and money and after looking at our audience numbers last year, I am making every effort to only have ONE show this year! However, in doing so, I have to assign seats to ensure we utilize all the seats.
So, this is how it works.
With your recital fee you get 2 tickets (Due first week of March! With Tuition).
Each family can purchase up to 4 more seats if they wish for the show.
If you need more than 4 tickets, you will mark that on the sheet in the office when you order an pay for your first ones.
After Wed, March 17th…I will review the tickets numbers and see if I can meet the needs of all those that want more tickets. Whatever seats have not been purchased, I will start filling orders. If there is a substantial number of tickets wanted that I cannot fill…then at that time I will look into going back to 2 shows!
I am trying to fulfill the needs of YOU the families..in the past I know it is hard when you have one child in multiple shows or multiple children in various shows and you have to purchase tickets for both shows…I am trying to help you out….so BEAR with me and let’s see if we can get this to work!
Thanks you in advance!
Lisa
Miss Lisa’s Dance Express
March-May 2010
***The following information is concerning the upcoming spring recital and year-end events! I realize this is a lot of information and some of which are several months away; however, I wanted you to have all these dates so you can make necessary arrangements-if your life is anything like mine, this is a must!***
Studio wide PICTURES- Mon, March 8. It is imperative that everyone be on time so that our later evening girls remain on schedule too! Girls can wear their hair however, please make sure you have all feathers and costume supplements attached. The poster is up at the studio with all costumes on it so you can see what it is to look like. We will send home a photo envelope prior to photos.
TIGHTS-Every female dancer and acro student should have the Danskin Lt Toast tights or Capezio Carmel. No pantyhose!!!!
SHOES…do you have the right ones? PINK Ballet shoes, Black Tap, BLACK Jazz Gore Boot. No slippers!
ROOMMOMS –If your child’s class uses the black beginner patton shoes (Mon 4, Mon 630, Wed 4) please get ribbons for your child's class for their tap shoes if they didn’t come with ribbons from the costume. Then have the other parents reimburse you. They need these for pictures.
I will have high school students responsible for your class at the recital. You will need to make sure your child is back stage get to line up for the stage, 3 songs prior to their performance w/ appropriate shoes on, if you choose to have them sit with you in the audience between numbers. High school girls are also in charge of making sure students get all their shoes changed and ready to go. Backstage is crazy, so we try to eliminate as many extra people as possible, so everyone can enjoy the show and it will run smooth.
Reminder--
Attendance is mandatory
From April 19th on- in order to adequately prepare and perform in the recital.
This is only fair to all the kids, so they look their best.
RECITAL FEES: There is a $50 recital fee charged per family, not child. If it is not paid, your child will not get to be in the recital.
The week of Monday, April 26th- we are going to operate on a different schedule…in order to allow the students to practice with each other for spacing and finale sake. These will be our Dance Rallies. We will meet at Hood Park unless it is raining for the rallies. Students are encouraged to bring snacks to share with the group. No regular classes on Tuesday and Wednesday since everyone will be coming on that Monday. We will do routines for each other and enhance some performance tactics, practice finale and hip hops and discuss the show and eat munchies. Room moms, please arrange the munchies of your choice.
Wed Acro classes and the Mon 4, Mon 630, Wed 4 (both dance classes) Dance Classes will all from 4:45-5:30PM.

Tues 5:30, Comp Students, Production 6:15-8 PM
Pointe girls 7:15-8:15 PM
I will stay as close to this schedule as possible! If we finish early, then students can leave early. This is a rehearsal atmosphere and needs to move promptly to ensure everyone knows what is going on! I really stress professionalism when putting on a show, and I greatly appreciate your support on this! Those parents that stay, please wait in the waiting room until your child is finished. Students should not be running in and out and all around.
RECITAL- SUNDAY, May 16th 2PM
Seats will be assigned to ensure enough seats for everyone. Once everyone orders any extra tickets…I will then do the seating plan. ALL tickets go on sale March 1-17th. After the 17th, we will assign seats, then open up any “extra” seats available. IN The case we don’t have enough seats….we will have to go back to 2 shows. I am not anticipating this though.
See note.

DANCE EXPRESS
January/February 2010
Warm Wishes to everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday.
A few notes to help keep everyone up on what is going on!
- Martin Luther King’s Birthday -We will be having classes
- The week of February 1st- I would like to invite the parents to watch the students in class. This will give you a chance to see what exciting things we have been working on. Please remember the studio rooms are not real big and space is limited. We do not have room for chairs and dancers..so we will be sitting on the floor. Please limit to just parents as again..space is limited..the recitals are for everyone!
- Valentine’s Day- We will not be doing a big shindig!
- No regular classes on President’s Day- Feb 15th…some dancers will be performing…see below.
- Individual and group pictures at the Studio March 8th.
- TIGHTS will be coming in the last week of Jan 27th. Your child will need to purchase Danskin Lt Toast tights to go with their costumes for pictures and the show. No pantyhose. Please make sure you get the Danskin brand so everyone matches. There are so many shade changes upon companies… I wouldn't want anyone to be different or not have the right ones. These can be reused year to year. Remember, they don’t need to wear panties with their tights, they are built in. Last day to order is Jan 27th!
- Make sure you have all the right shoes and colors for the recital- black taps, Black jazz gore boots, pink ballet shoes (not slippers-those are bad for your feet and legs), dance paws or mittens. Put your name inside all shoes so they don’t get mixed up.
- Thi
s is the time of year for bad weather; please call the studio to hear a recording for snow cancellations. You may also check our website for cancellation and updates. I do have a calendar on the site as well if you need any important dates! - No classes April 5th- Easter Monday-Happy Easter!
Thank you for being so prompt in paying each month. It helps when everyone works together and gets their tuition in the first week. Thank you all for all your help in making Dance Express’ seventh year so successful!

DANCE REHEARSAL AT Leach Theatre, UM-Rolla (Castleman Hall)-- Wednesday May 12, 2010 Please note your child's time. WEDNESDAY Rehearsal (12th) Monday 4:00 & Wed 4 5-6 PM Mon 4:45, 5 & 5:25 5:30-7:15 PM Tues 5:30, Comp Students, Production 6:15-8 PM Duets/Trios/Pointe girls 7:15-8:15 PM I will stay as close to this schedule as possible! After the 31st, we will assign seats, then open up any “extra” seats available. IN The case we don’t have enough seats….we will have to go back to 2 shows. I am not anticipating this though.
